A healthier lifestyle has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was involved in sports since the age of five, minored in dance in college, and have been an avid gym member for the past ten years. So, it was no surprise to me that I would stay active throughout my pregnancy too! While pregnant, I restricted my workout regimen to low impact exercises such as swimming, walking, and weight lifting three-four times a week for the first seven months – walking only during those last two months.
While I am proud of my consistent exercise during pregnancy, I cannot say the same for my diet. I am a firm believer that a balanced diet is a healthy diet – and in the past I’ve stuck to a low carb/high protein diet during the week while enjoying whatever my heart desired on the weekends. While I had hoped to continue with that same approach during pregnancy, it quickly got thrown out the window. If I wanted cake (my biggest pregnancy craving), I ate cake. Now, I didn’t go completely off the rails, but my diet wasn’t as regular as I hoped it would have been.
39 weeks pregnant
In total, I gained right at 35 pounds – which was normal for my BMI. How I didn’t gain more than that is truly amazing? I’m telling you, I put down some cake y’all!
Embracing My Bump
Watching my body transform every day during my pregnancy was such a gift. However, I did worry how the stretched skin would return back to normal, so I made sure to religiously apply moisturizers to my body every night in order to prevent stretch marks. As I continued to watch my baby grow beneath my skin, I embraced every second. I considered myself beyond blessed to experience such an amazing journey. There was life inside of me created by love – and any alterations to my body after delivery were the least of my concern.
Bellefit Recovery Girdle
Toward the end of my pregnancy I had bittersweet emotions about seeings my belly bump disappear. I was beyond excited to meet my little girl, but knew that the indescribable feelings of her rolls and kicks from within were coming to a close. While I was ok with my body changes, I was a bit curious how my body would look after delivery. Would all the stretched skin sag? How long would it take for me to fit back into my pre-maternity jeans? Will I continue to carry a few extra pounds that weren’t there before?
Just as I started to have these silly concerns, I received two recovery girdles from Bellefit Maternity.
Bellefit compression girdles and corsets work by drawing in stretched abdominal muscles providing a 360° support structure around the torso, thus, reducing strain on ligaments and joints in the lower back, pelvis, and buttocks. Reducing stress in these areas enhances your body’s ability to return to its pre-pregnancy alignment, shape and lose the post baby tummy. As shifted and constrained organs return to their pre-pregnancy locations during the first few weeks after c-section or natural birth, Bellefit® girdles hold you in place allowing movement with complete confidence.
My initial intent was to use the girdles to help me get back to my pre-pregnancy shape and lose the postpartum tummy faster. While I still used the girdles for those reasons, I actually appreciated them more than I thought as it helped during my recovery from an unexpected C-section delivery. The support of the girdle around my incision was wonderful. It gave me the comfort I needed to move around which ultimately lead to a quicker recuperation.
I received two different sized girdles. I wore the bigger girdle for the first week and a half due to the extra fluid and the fact that my uterus had a ways to go before returning to its normal size. The larger girdle included a dual closure – which made it easier to place on and take off each day. Once I was able to comfortably fit into the larger girdle, I then transitioned to the smaller girdle.

Wearing my Bellefit Girdle
The girdles are made of polyamide fabric and elastane. The hypoallergenic and micro porous fabric prevented my skin from breaking out while allowing my skin to breathe. I never felt uncomfortable or overheated – which was a big deal for me since it is summertime in Louisiana. And since I’m still wearing loose fitted clothing, the girdles were easily hidden beneath my outfits.
1 month Postpartum
Above are the results after wearing the Bellefit girdle for one month. During this first month, I have not been able to complete a single workout since I’ve been trying to take it easy while recovering from surgery and adjusting to my new lifestyle. I’ve still got a few pounds to shed in order to return to my pre-pregnancy weight, but I’m incredibly satisfied with the quick outcome from the Bellefit girdle. While I am excited about returning to healthier habits, I understand that my body will adjust on its own terms. Quite honestly my body may never return to its former glory – and that is fine with me as long as I’m continuing to take care of myself and my baby.
